Newton Heath is a residential area in northeast Manchester, located about 3 miles from the city center. Historically an industrial district, it was once home to factories and mills, with the Manchester Corporation Tramways depot playing a key role in its development. The area retains some of its working-class roots, with rows of terraced houses and local businesses serving the community. Newton Heath is also known as the original home of Manchester United Football Club, which was founded here in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club.

The area has a mix of green spaces and industrial remnants, with Philips Park and the Medlock Valley providing outdoor recreation. Newton Heath is well-connected by public transport, including the Metrolink tram system, making it accessible to central Manchester and surrounding areas. While it has faced economic challenges, recent regeneration efforts have brought new housing and community projects.
