About

Aberdeen City sits on Scotland's northeast coast where the North Sea meets the mouths of the River Dee and the River Don. The urban area and waterfront are linked by an active harbour that has long supported fishing and maritime trade. Many public and civic buildings use granite quarried locally at Rubislaw Quarry, a feature that shaped the city's appearance and stonework; Marischal College is a prominent granite building on the city centre waterfront. The seafront includes a long sandy beach and a promenade running north from the harbour, with piers and coastal access onto Aberdeen Bay.

The city is a centre for offshore service industries and maritime support, with ports and yards handling supply vessels and equipment for operations in the North Sea. Higher education is represented by the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University, both within city boundaries. Cultural venues include Aberdeen Art Gallery and His Majesty’s Theatre, while green space such as Duthie Park with its Winter Gardens provides public horticultural displays. Aberdeen International Airport at Dyce lies to the northwest of the urban core.
