Almond

Almond ward lies in the west of Edinburgh, primarily encompassing the residential suburbs of Cramond, Davidson's Mains, and Barnton. The area is characterised by low-density housing, including many detached and semi-detached homes, alongside local shopping parades and community facilities. Its western boundary follows the course of the River Almond, which flows into the Firth of Forth. The landscape includes significant green spaces and playing fields, contributing to a quieter suburban atmosphere distinct from the city centre.

The ward contains the ancient village of Cramond, where a Roman fort once stood at the mouth of the river. A causeway leads from the village shore to Cramond Island, accessible at low tide across the tidal sands of the Firth. This historical coastal edge, with its mix of archaeological interest and natural estuary environment, forms a key part of the area's identity, contrasting with the inland suburban neighbourhoods.
