About

Arran ward encompasses the entire Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde. The landscape is dominated by mountainous terrain in the north, often called 'Scotland in Miniature', and rolling farmland in the south. The main settlements are Brodick, Lamlash, Whiting Bay, and Lochranza, which serve as ferry ports and service centres for the resident population and visitors. The coastline varies from long sandy beaches to rocky cliffs.

The economy is largely based on tourism, agriculture, and small-scale fishing. The island's geology is significant, with Hutton's Unconformity at Lochranza being a globally important site in the history of earth science. A network of walking and cycling routes, including the coastal way, connects the villages. Daily ferry services link Brodick to Ardrossan on the mainland, defining the island's connection to North Ayrshire.
