About

East Lindsey is a local government district in eastern Lincolnshire on the North Sea coast. It stretches from Skegness and Ingoldmells in the south to the area around Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe, and inland to towns such as Louth, Horncastle and Spilsby. The coast contains stretches of sand, sea defence banks, salt marsh and dunes; Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve and the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes reserve lie along the shoreline. Skegness Pier and the resort frontage at Ingoldmells mark the district's seaside facilities.
Away from the coast the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty occupies much of the district, crossed by the Wolds Way long-distance footpath. Market towns include Louth, where the parish church of St James rises above the town, and Horncastle, noted for its antiques trade. Farming, drainage systems and manufacturing are part of the local economy; rivers such as the Lud and the Steeping run through the landscape, cutting valleys and feeding roadside millponds.
