Fratton

Fratton is a residential district located to the north of Portsmouth's historic dockyard and city centre. The area is primarily known for its dense terraced housing, which was largely constructed in the Victorian and Edwardian eras to accommodate dockyard workers. Its main commercial focus is Fratton Road, a busy local high street lined with independent shops, supermarkets, and services catering to the community. The ward is well-connected by the Fratton railway station, a key stop on the Portsmouth Direct Line to London.

A dominant feature of the area is Fratton Park, the home ground of Portsmouth Football Club since 1898. The stadium's presence significantly defines the local atmosphere on matchdays. The ward also contains the Fratton Bridge, a notable railway viaduct that crosses over Goldsmith Avenue. While residential in character, the area includes several small parks and green spaces, such as the King's Gardens, providing communal recreation areas amidst the urban streetscape.
