About

Loch a Tuath ward covers the northern coastline of the Isle of Lewis, characterised by a landscape of peat moorland, small lochs, and scattered coastal settlements. The area centres around the village of Barvas, with its linear layout following the main road. The terrain slopes gently from inland moors down to a rocky shoreline and several small bays.

This is a primarily Gaelic-speaking area, with crofting and fishing forming traditional economic bases. The coastline features the Barvas Machair, a low-lying fertile plain of grassland and sand dunes behind the beach. The ward includes the smaller communities of Arnol, home to a preserved blackhouse, and Brue, situated near the head of a sheltered sea loch.
