About

Clumber Park forms the heart of the area, a National Trust estate of roughly 3,800 acres centred on broad lawns, managed woodlands and the long ornamental lake known locally as the Long Pond. Paths and estate lanes run past planted avenues and remnants of formal work by 19th-century estate managers, and the parkland gave its name to the Clumber Spaniel, a dog breed developed in the estate kennels and still associated with the place today.

The surrounding settlements are small villages and working farmland. Manton lies close to the park boundary and is made up of lanes, farms, a village hall and parish features that serve local residents. Elkesley sits beside the A1 and combines roadside housing with agricultural holdings and country lanes that connect back to Clumber Park. Local life here revolves around parish councils, village amenities and outdoor access across fields and woodlands rather than large-scale commercial development.
