Pirbright & Normandy

Pirbright and Normandy form a primarily rural area on the western edge of the Guildford borough, characterised by extensive common land, woodland, and agricultural fields. The settlements themselves are villages centred around greens and historic churches, with architecture ranging from traditional Surrey cottages to more modern family homes. The landscape is defined by the gently rolling terrain of the Surrey Heath, creating a distinct separation from the more urban centre of Guildford itself.

A significant portion of the land is occupied by the Ministry of Defence's Pirbright Camp, which influences the local environment and community. The area is crisscrossed by a network of public footpaths and bridleways, including parts of the long-distance Fox Way, allowing for extensive exploration of the heathland and pine woods. Normandy's name is a legacy of the Norman conquest, a historical footnote reflected in its local place names and the fabric of the older buildings.
