About

Sgìre an Rubha occupies the Eye Peninsula, a slender eastern spur of the Isle of Lewis. The landscape is dominated by low-lying peat moorland, crofting townships, and a long, intricate coastline facing the Minch. The main settlement is the linear village of Steòrnabhagh, which serves as the administrative and commercial centre for Na h-Eileanan Siar. The area's economy is closely tied to the sea and public services, with the ferry terminal at An Tòb providing a vital mainland link.

The terrain is generally flat and open, with the ancient stone circle of Clach an Trushal standing as one of the tallest single standing stones in Scotland. Much of the peninsula is a working environment of crofts and small harbours rather than a scenic wilderness. The coastline includes broad bays like Camas Uig and sheltered inlets, with the lighthouse at Tiumpan Head marking the eastern point. The community is predominantly Gaelic-speaking, with cultural life centred on local traditions and the arts centre at An Lanntair.
