Upper Braes

Upper Braes covers a large rural expanse in the southeastern part of the Falkirk council area. The landscape is characterised by rolling farmland, scattered woodland, and the prominent peaks of the Slamannan Plateau. Settlements are small and dispersed, including villages like Shieldhill, California, and Avonbridge, which serve as local hubs. The area maintains a distinct, quiet character separate from the more urban central belt.

The ward is defined by its geography, with the River Avon carving a valley through the south. Historical mining and agriculture have shaped the land, with remnants of old industry still visible in places. A network of minor roads connects the communities, while the M8 motorway traces its northern edge, providing a key transport link without disrupting the overall rural atmosphere.
