Woolwich Common

Woolwich Common sits north of Woolwich town centre in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The area is public open space with trees, grassland, ponds and paths used for walking, running and informal sport. Footpaths cross former military land and link to neighbouring green patches. Historic features include parade grounds and earthworks that reflect the site's long association with the Army; changes over two centuries are visible in road lines and surviving boundary walls as much as in signs or plaques.

Along the Common’s edge stands the Royal Artillery Barracks, a long brick building that runs parallel to one of the main avenues and marks the area’s military past. Trails pass the barracks, ponds and small copses, and local routes tie into the wider network of south‑east London walks. Events, dog‑walking and school outings are common; small visitor facilities and information boards describe the landscape and its layers of use without intruding on open space.
