Burgess Hill East

Burgess Hill East sits to the east of the town centre in Mid Sussex, within West Sussex. The area is largely residential, with a mix of post-war and more recent housing, local shops, primary schools and community facilities that serve daily needs. The A2300 relief road runs along the eastern edge of the settlement, providing a direct link to the A23 and easing access for traffic that would otherwise pass through the centre. Burgess Hill railway station is a short distance to the west, giving regular services to Brighton and London, which shapes commuting patterns for many residents.

Open spaces and playing fields are woven through the neighbourhood, and pockets of farmland and hedgerows mark the transition to the surrounding countryside. From higher streets there are views toward the South Downs. Community life is centred on small parades of shops, local halls and sports pitches, while planning and infrastructure changes in recent years have focused on managing growth and improving walking and cycling links to the town centre. Parts of the eastern boundary show clear traces of the town’s expansion where newer roads meet older field patterns.
