About

Mid Sussex is a local government district in West Sussex, positioned between Gatwick Airport and the coast in the South East of England. It includes the towns of Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and East Grinstead plus a network of villages and farmland. Mid Sussex District Council sits in Haywards Heath. The A23 and the London–Brighton rail line run through the area, and a web of smaller roads and rail links connects communities and commuter stations to London and the wider region.

Landscape ranges from sandstone ridges and wooded valleys of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to stretches of chalk downland on the northern edge of the South Downs National Park. East Grinstead serves as the northern terminus of the preserved Bluebell Railway, and Standen, the National Trust Arts and Crafts house with original Morris interiors, is set within estate gardens inside the district. Farming, local industry and commuter patterns shape daily life, while footpaths, commons and bridleways link settlements across the district.
