Rottingdean & Saltdean

Rottingdean sits on the coast east of central Brighton and retains the layout of a small village within the city. A narrow High Street runs down from the hill past St Margaret's Church to the seafront, with rows of cottages and a village green. A white-painted windmill stands above the housing and is visible from the seafront; it marks the approach to the village and is often used as a local landmark by walkers along the coast.

Saltdean occupies the coastline immediately east of Rottingdean, with a concrete promenade and pebble beach backed by low chalk cliffs. The curved, art deco Saltdean Lido sits on the foreshore and is a focus for summer activity. Paths and stepped access link the clifftop streets to the beach; buses run along the A259 that connects both settlements to Brighton. The area mixes residential streets with local shops and green spaces close to the shoreline.
