Alderney & Bourne Valley

The Alderney & Bourne Valley ward is situated in the Poole area of the conurbation, centred on the neighbourhoods of Alderney and Branksome. It lies inland from Poole Harbour, with the Bourne Valley stream running through it. The area is primarily residential, characterised by suburban housing estates, local shopping parades, and community facilities like schools and parks. Its topography includes gentle slopes leading down to the valley floor.

A defining characteristic is the presence of the Bourne Valley Greenway, a linear park and wildlife corridor following the stream. This provides a continuous route for walking and cycling, connecting urban areas with natural habitats. The ward contains several recreation grounds, including the large Branksome Recreation Ground. Housing is a mix of interwar, postwar, and more recent developments, serving a settled residential community.
