Andover Newbury Road

Andover's Newbury Road (A343) forms the town's main western approach in Test Valley, running west from the town centre toward Newbury. The stretch inside the town contains a mix of older terraces, post-war semis and newer estates, with a small parade of shops and a few light industrial units set back from the carriageway. Regular bus services use the road for links to the centre and to Newbury, and the route is a common commuting line for drivers heading west from Andover; the railway station is a short drive from the eastern end of Newbury Road.

Beyond the built-up edge the road drops gently into the open ground of the Hampshire Downs, with hedged fields and a network of footpaths and bridleways that begin near the western verge and lead into surrounding farmland. A chalk stream runs in the wider valley system to the north, and winter stubble and spring oilseed rape are visible from the roadside in their season. Local community facilities include playing fields and a primary school within walking distance, making the Newbury Road corridor a link between town services and Test Valley countryside.
