About

Annesley and Kirkby Woodhouse lie in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire, north of Nottingham. The area combines a small village core at Annesley with the housing and streets of Kirkby Woodhouse, which grew around coal mining in the 19th and 20th centuries. Traces of that industrial past remain in rows of terraced houses and in the layout of former pit sites; Annesley also contains the country house known as Annesley Hall and surrounding parkland.

Daily life is focused on local shops, a community centre, primary schools and bus services, with the Robin Hood Line at nearby Kirkby-in-Ashfield providing rail connections to Nottingham and Mansfield. Footpaths and minor lanes lead from the housing into farmland and small woodlands, and one track runs along the old colliery spoil tips, giving a direct link between the settlements and the former pits. Community groups organise sports teams and events, while recent housing development has filled some gaps around the village without replacing pockets of open ground.
