Arnside, Milnthorpe & Holme

Arnside, Milnthorpe and Holme sit on the edge of the Kent estuary in Westmorland and Furness, where small rivers and drainage channels meet the tidal sands of Morecambe Bay. Arnside village fronts the estuary beneath Arnside Knott, a low limestone hill in National Trust care that rises from the salt marsh and offers clear lines of sight across the bay. The Furness line crosses the estuary on the stone railway viaduct at Arnside, a regular feature in views from the shore and from walks along the foreshore.

Milnthorpe occupies a crossroads on the A6 with a market square at its centre and a history tied to coaching and local trade; Holme lies just to the east, linked by lanes and old field boundaries. The patchwork of pasture, reedbeds and coastal mud supports local birdwatching, walking routes and small-scale farming.
