About

Ashton-on-Ribble lies on the north bank of the River Ribble, a short westward stretch from Preston city centre. The area mixes terraced streets from the 19th century with later suburban housing, local shops, churches and pubs close to the riverside. From some riverside paths the mudflats of the Ribble are exposed at low tide and the long-distance Ribble Way runs nearby, linking riverside walking to wider coastal and rural routes.

Larches sits to the west of Ashton-on-Ribble and is mainly residential, with a combination of council-built estates and private housing. The neighbourhood has primary schools, small shopping parades and community centres that serve local needs, and regular bus services into Preston city centre. Green spaces and playing fields provide outdoor space for residents; allotments and tree-lined streets are part of the local pattern. Both areas sit close enough to the city for daily commuting while retaining a river-edge character on Ashton-on-Ribble's side of the Ribble.
