Boston Central & North

Boston's Central and North area encompasses the dense downtown core and the historic neighborhoods immediately to its north. The Financial District's skyscrapers give way to the brick buildings of Government Center and the West End. This zone is a hub for transit, with North Station serving as a major rail terminus beneath the TD Garden arena. The area is defined by the juxtaposition of modern government complexes and some of the city's oldest streets.

Crossing the Charles River via the Charlestown Bridge leads to the distinct neighborhood of Charlestown, anchored by the Bunker Hill Monument and the USS Constitution. The area's geography is shaped by the river and the former Mill Creek basin. A network of elevated highways, including the Central Artery, threads through the district, creating a stark urban landscape beneath its overpasses.
