Braughing & Standon

Braughing & Standon ward covers a largely rural portion of East Hertfordshire, characterised by open farmland, wooded valleys, and the winding course of the River Rib. The area includes the historic villages of Braughing and Standon, along with smaller settlements like Puckeridge, all connected by a network of narrow country lanes. The landscape is defined by gentle hills and the floodplain of the Rib, with scattered farmsteads and traditional timber-framed buildings.

The ward has a strong agricultural character, with several working farms shaping the local economy and scenery. Standon hosts a significant annual charity football match on Ash Wednesday, a longstanding local tradition. The area is bisected by the A10 road, which brings some through traffic, but the villages themselves maintain a quiet, settled atmosphere centred around their parish churches and village greens.
