Buckenhams & Snetterton

The Buckenhams & Snetterton area in Breckland is a patchwork of arable fields, hedgerows and fragments of Breckland heath. Small villages and isolated farmsteads lie along lanes and green verges, and a network of public footpaths and bridleways links churchyards, village greens and long-established boundary oaks. Land use is dominated by cereal rotation and sugar beet, with roadside ditches and clay pockets holding damp grassland that attracts local walkers and birdwatchers.

Snetterton Circuit occupies a large site here, laid out on the runways and perimeter tracks of the former RAF Snetterton Heath, and motorsport events shape local traffic and visitor patterns. Away from the track, open arable tracts and heath remnants support species associated with Breckland, including stone curlew and skylark, and a scattering of farm buildings and estate cottages record the area’s agricultural history. Community halls, parish councils and small local businesses provide day-to-day services for residents and the seasonal influx linked to the circuit.
