Burford & Brize Norton

Burford sits on the River Windrush and is centred on a long High Street that slopes down to a stone bridge across the river. The street is lined with houses and shops built from local limestone, and civic history is visible in features such as the market place and the parish church of St John the Baptist, which dates largely from the 15th century and contains carved stonework and memorials. The river and bridge form a focal point for riverside walks and for occasional local events.

North of Burford the parish of Brize Norton consists of farmland and a small village clustered near the airfield. RAF Brize Norton occupies much of the parish and is the RAF's main air transport station, handling large transport aircraft and refuelling tankers on regular military and humanitarian flights. The village itself retains farming ties, field patterns and lanes that lead to dispersed cottages and farmsteads, and the contrast between airfield operations and agricultural land shapes daily life in the area.
