The brick buildings line Shad Thames and retain cast-iron loading bays and external hoists where goods were lifted from the riverfront quays. Over time the warehouses were adapted to housing, restaurants and studios; riverside terraces and cobbled lanes run between the converted buildings and the waterfront, with narrow service passages that reveal the area's industrial past.
