About

Cam is a large village in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, lying close to the town of Dursley. The River Cam runs through the parish and the settlement follows the river valley for much of its length. Industry and housing cluster along the main routes, and Cam and Dursley railway station sits at the village edge on the Bristol–Birmingham line; the station was reopened in 1994 to restore regular rail services. Local roads link Cam with nearby villages and with the regional road network without using routes through the immediate countryside.

The village grew with 19th-century textile and engineering trades, and several former mill sites have been adapted for light industry, offices and housing. There are primary schools, shops, sports clubs and community halls that serve a wide local catchment. Green spaces border parts of the settlement and footpaths follow stretches of the river, while local planning retains pockets of older stone and brick terraces alongside newer developments. Cam’s parish council and local groups run regular community events and manage shared facilities for residents.
