Canvey Island East

Canvey Island East is a primarily residential ward located on the eastern side of the island. The area is characterised by post-war housing estates, bungalows, and low-rise terraced homes, with a network of local shops and services along Furtherwick Road. The landscape is largely flat, defined by the sea wall that encircles this part of the island and the open views over the Thames Estuary.

The ward's identity is closely tied to its maritime environment and flood defences. A large, distinctive circular concrete structure, a remnant of the old oil terminal jetty, stands prominently in the estuary. Large areas of the eastern coastline consist of protected salt marsh and mudflats, with a small marina at Leigh Beck providing moorings. The community is served by several local parks and the Waterside Farm Leisure Centre.
