Capel, Leigh, Newdigate & Charlwood

The Capel, Leigh, Newdigate & Charlwood ward encompasses a large, predominantly rural area in the eastern part of Mole Valley. Its landscape is characterised by extensive farmland, woodland, and scattered settlements, with the villages themselves acting as distinct hubs. The topography is gently rolling, marked by small streams and pockets of ancient woodland. This is a working agricultural area, with fields and farmsteads defining much of the scenery between the main communities.

A notable network of quiet country lanes and public footpaths connects the villages, passing by traditional weatherboarded cottages and historic farm buildings. The area includes parts of the Weald, with its characteristic clay soil, and is bordered to the south by the county boundary with West Sussex. The presence of historic churches, like the medieval St. Nicholas in Charlwood, and the former airfield at Leigh Place, speak to a long and layered local history.
