Carisbrooke & Gunville

Carisbrooke & Gunville is a largely residential ward located in the central part of the Isle of Wight, to the west of Newport. The area encompasses the historic village of Carisbrooke and the more modern settlement of Gunville, creating a mix of older cottages and post-war housing estates. The landscape is characterised by gentle, rolling countryside and quiet suburban streets. The ward's central position provides good access to the island's main town and transport links.

A dominant historical feature is Carisbrooke Castle, a well-preserved motte-and-bailey fortress with later medieval additions, which sits on a mound overlooking the village. The castle grounds and its working donkey-powered treadwheel are a local landmark. The area is primarily residential, with local services centred along the main roads. Surrounding farmland and downland contribute to its semi-rural atmosphere, with public footpaths leading into the wider countryside.
