About

Castle Vale is a residential district in northeast Birmingham, built largely on the site of a former airfield. The area is characterised by extensive post-war housing, including both low-rise estates and a significant number of tower blocks that were constructed in the 1960s. A major regeneration project in the 1990s transformed much of the original infrastructure, leading to improved housing and community facilities. The layout retains a spacious feel, with large areas of green open space and numerous footpaths threading through the neighbourhood.

The local centre, Castle Vale Retail Park, provides essential shopping and services. The area is anchored by several community-focused amenities, including a library and health centre. The former runway of the airfield now forms part of the road network, with its long, straight sections still evident in the local geography. Public transport connections include bus routes linking the ward to Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham city centre, while the M6 motorway runs along its western boundary.
