Castlerock ward encompasses a stretch of the north coast, directly west of the town of Coleraine. The area includes the village of Castlerock itself, with its railway station and links to the scenic coastal route. The landscape is dominated by the Bann estuary and the extensive dune systems that back the long, sandy beach. Mussenden Temple, perched dramatically on the cliffs, is a historic landmark overlooking the Atlantic.
Inland, the ward contains agricultural land and the edges of Binevenagh mountain, with its distinctive basalt plateau. The area is part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The River Bann, a significant waterway, forms part of the ward's eastern boundary. Golf links and caravan parks are established features along the coastal fringe, catering to visitors drawn to the seaside environment.
