Central Chesterfield & Stonegravels

Central Chesterfield is organised around the Market Place and the parish church of St Mary and All Saints, whose twisted, pointed spire defines the skyline. The market operates from the covered hall and stalls in the square, with surrounding streets that hold shops, cafés and civic buildings. Pedestrian routes link the market to the church and the main streets, and regular community events use the open space beside the church and hall. The pattern of streets and the market layout reflect the town’s role as a local commercial centre.

Stonegravels sits beside the River Rother just south-east of the town centre and has a mix of riverside open space, playing fields and light industrial plots. The name comes from gravel beds deposited by the river, still visible in places along the bank and reflected in local footpaths that follow the Rother. River crossings and riverside paths give direct walking routes back into the town, so the area acts as a practical link between the central shopping quarter and the river corridor.
