Chafford Hundred is a residential area in Thurrock developed from the late 1980s on former clay and chalk workings. It has a local shopping centre, primary schools, and Chafford Hundred railway station on the c2c line, which provides direct services to London Fenchurch Street and Southend. At the estate's edge, Chafford Gorges Nature Park occupies flooded former quarries with steep-sided lakes and footpaths that thread through reclaimed woodland; the gorges are used for walking and wildlife watching.

North Stifford lies immediately north of the estate and retains a village core around a medieval parish church and a small cluster of older cottages and farm buildings.
