Chessington South & Malden Rushett

Chessington South and Malden Rushett sit on the south-western edge of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Chessington South is the terminus of the short Chessington Branch Line with regular trains to London Waterloo via Motspur Park. The station serves a commuter catchment and stands within walking distance of Chessington World of Adventures and the zoo that predated the theme park. The town centre around the station mixes 1930s housing estates with a small high street of shops, schools and community facilities.

To the west and south of the town, Malden Rushett forms a small settlement where suburban streets meet Green Belt farmland and pockets of woodland. It reads as a transition from outer London suburbia to countryside, with fields, riding stables and scattered cottages rather than a continuous urban grid. Local footpaths and bridleways link the hamlet to adjoining open land, and land use still includes smallholdings and allotments alongside residential plots. The combined area offers quick rail access to central London while retaining routes into the surrounding countryside.
