Clapham Junction & East Hill

Clapham Junction is built around a major rail interchange whose platforms are numbered 1–17 and which handles a high volume of suburban services. The station is served by South Western Railway, Southern and London Overground, and the track layout and bridges define much of the local street pattern. Streets that meet the junction include St John’s Hill, Lavender Hill and Northcote Road; Northcote Road hosts a regular market and a strip of independent shops, cafés and pubs. Day-to-day activity centres on commuter flows, short shopping trips and the clusters of businesses that sit close to the station entrances.

East Hill lies a short distance east of the junction within the Borough of Wandsworth and acts as a link between the town centre and nearby residential streets. The road is edged by terraces, low-rise flats and local convenience shops, plus a handful of community facilities and schools. Recent housing infill and small commercial developments sit alongside longer-established Victorian terraces, so the area shows a mix of housing types and uses that reflects its role as a local hub for services and weekday movement.
