Clayton Vale

Clayton Vale is a large green corridor following the River Medlock as it cuts through east Manchester. The area consists of open meadows, woodland, and wetland habitats, providing a significant natural space within the urban landscape. Its paths form part of the National Cycle Network and are heavily used by walkers and cyclists moving between Clayton and the city centre. The valley's topography creates a distinct sense of separation from the surrounding residential and industrial areas.

The remains of the Clayton Viaduct, a former railway bridge, stand prominently within the vale. Its stone arches now serve as a backdrop for community events and a landmark for navigation. The river itself has been extensively rehabilitated to improve biodiversity and water quality. This regeneration has made the vale a functional green lung and a key recreational resource for the neighbourhoods that border it.
