About

Coppice is a residential neighbourhood within the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, made up of terraced and semi-detached streets laid out during the town's industrial expansion. The area grew up to house workers from nearby cotton mills and still shows that pattern in its street plan and housing stock. The name comes from coppicing practices on strips of common woodland that once sat on the higher ground; a few mature trees survive along some streets and in pocket green spaces. Daily life centres on a primary school, a small parade of shops and a handful of parish rooms and social clubs that serve the immediate catchment.

Transport links run north–south into Oldham town centre and on towards Greater Manchester, with regular buses on the main routes. Community groups meet around the recreation ground and at the school, and occasional local volunteer projects tend small planting areas and play spaces. The neighbourhood is compact, walkable and defined by its working‑class street pattern and the surviving traces of the woodland that gave the area its name.
