Cowes West, Gurnard & Northwood

Cowes West sits at the mouth of the River Medina, centred on the harbour, boatyards and a string of marinas. The Royal Yacht Squadron’s clubhouse stands beside Cowes Castle at the harbour entrance, and the town’s waterfront fills with racing craft each summer for Cowes Week. A short stretch west along the shoreline runs into Gurnard, where Gurnard Bay and the village green meet the Solent and the local sailing club uses the marsh edge for launching. The chain ferry across the Medina still operates close to the harbour, moving pedestrians and vehicles between the river banks and shaping local access patterns.

Northwood lies just inland from Cowes and is built around Northwood Park and Northwood House, which hosts community events and a small theatre. The park contains the town cricket ground and a network of paths that link residential streets to the coast. Local shops, a primary school and small light-industrial units serve residents, while footpaths and slipways along the shoreline provide direct walking and launching routes between Cowes West and Gurnard.
