Derriford & Estover

Derriford and Estover sit in north Plymouth, about 3–4 miles from the city centre, clustered around the junctions of the A386 and local arterial roads. The area is centred on Derriford Hospital, the city’s main acute centre, and the nearby Plymouth Science Park, which houses research and small tech firms linked to the university. The hospital campus includes a rooftop helipad used by air ambulances, which is a frequent sight and shapes traffic and emergency access routes around the site.

Estover lies immediately north-east of the hospital and combines post-war housing with an industrial and commercial estate that serves much of north Plymouth. Local provision includes schools, community centres and a range of shops and service businesses, so day-to-day needs are met within walking or short driving distance. Public transport links run through the area connecting to the city and outlying suburbs, and the road network funnels traffic toward the main routes in and out of Plymouth. Overall the area functions as a practical hub for healthcare, education and employment.
