About

Digbeth sits immediately east of Birmingham city centre, built around a grid of streets, rail viaducts and canals. The Digbeth Branch Canal meets the Grand Union Canal at Warwick Bar, where a stretch of basin and historic lock structures mark the old industrial junction. Brick warehouses and railway arches show the area’s manufacturing past; many of those buildings now contain studios, small workshops and offices that follow the original plot lines of the yards and canals.

The Custard Factory on Gibb Street occupies the former Bird’s custard works and now hosts creative businesses, galleries and event spaces. Street art and murals appear along the arches and side streets, and independent venues use converted warehouses and basements for music, markets and exhibitions. Regular evening and weekend activity tends to centre on the Custard Factory complex and the canalside routes that run through Digbeth.
