About

Dundrum is a coastal ward situated along the southern shore of Dundrum Bay in County Down. The area is defined by its natural harbour and the expansive tidal sands and mudflats that are part of the bay. The village itself is compact, with residential streets leading down to the waterfront. The landscape inland is dominated by the drumlin hills characteristic of the region, with mixed agricultural land use.

A prominent feature is the substantial ruin of Dundrum Castle, a Norman fortification built on a hilltop overlooking the bay. The Murlough National Nature Reserve, with its extensive dune system, lies immediately to the east. The local economy has traditional connections to fishing and agriculture, with tourism centred on the beach, castle, and nature reserve. The area is a noted site for birdwatching due to the intertidal habitats of the bay.
