East Tilbury

East Tilbury is situated on the north bank of the River Thames within the Thurrock unitary authority. The area is characterised by a mix of residential housing, industrial estates, and protected marshland. Its landscape is largely flat, shaped by its riverside location and historical land use. The settlement includes the original village core and later 20th-century developments, creating distinct residential zones within the broader area.

A very specific legacy is the 1930s Bata estate, an industrial model village with its own distinct architectural style and layout. This planned community, centered around the former shoe factory, remains a defining feature. The area's economy is linked to the nearby Port of Tilbury and logistics sectors.
