Egremont & Moor Row

Egremont is situated on the western edge of the Lake District National Park, with its town centre dominated by the ruins of a 12th-century castle. The area's history is tied to iron ore mining, an industry that shaped its development. The River Ehen flows to the south of the town, and the landscape begins to rise towards the fells. Moor Row is a smaller settlement located directly to the east, historically functioning as a railway junction for the local mines.

The topography here is transitional, moving from coastal plain to the inland valleys and moorland of the Western Lake District. Remnants of the industrial past, including old mine workings and railway lines, are integrated into the scenery. A notable local event is the annual Crab Fair, which dates back over 750 years and includes traditional contests. The area provides access to walking routes into the quieter western fells, such as those around Ennerdale.
