About

Ernesettle is a suburb on the north‑west edge of Plymouth, beside the A38 corridor and close to the banks of the River Tamar estuary. The area mixes housing, a local shopping parade, a primary school and a community centre, with an industrial estate to the north that provides local employment. Local buses link Ernesettle to the city centre and nearby neighbourhoods. Road connections make it one of the main residential gateways from the A38 into Plymouth.

The landscape rises from creek and marshland to a ridge where a mid‑19th century Palmerston fort still sits, its circular gun emplacements and access road visible from Ernesettle Lane. Much of the housing was built in the interwar and post‑war decades, and the neighbourhood retains allotments, playing fields and pocket green spaces used for community events. Local projects and a small volunteer hub run activities for children and older residents, and walking routes follow minor roads and paths down toward the water and the industrial quays that mark the northern fringe of the city.
