Eyres Monsell

Eyres Monsell is a residential suburb in the south of Leicester, roughly three miles from the city centre. The estate was laid out after the Second World War on land associated with Bolton Eyres‑Monsell, 1st Viscount Monsell, and the name of the area reflects that link. It was developed mainly to provide council housing and the street pattern mixes terraces and semi‑detached houses around small greens and cul‑de‑sacs. Over time many homes have changed tenure under national housing programmes, while the basic post‑war layout remains apparent in the road network and plot sizes.

Everyday services are concentrated in a local shopping parade and there is a primary school and community facilities that host groups and activities for residents. Bus routes connect the estate with the city centre and other south Leicester districts, and short walks within the neighbourhood lead to pocket parks and play spaces. The combination of mid‑century housing, compact public spaces and a clearly legible street plan gives Eyres Monsell a recognisable local identity within Leicester.
