The Giant's Causeway ward encompasses a stretch of the North Antrim coastline, defined by its dramatic geological formations. The area is centred on the UNESCO World Heritage Site itself, a vast plateau of interlocking basalt columns formed by ancient volcanic activity. This rugged shoreline is managed by the National Trust, with the visitor centre acting as a gateway for exploring the natural landmark. The landscape is primarily open cliff and coastal paths, with sparse settlement directly on the headland.
Inland from the coast, the ward includes the village of Bushmills, known for the Old Bushmills Distillery. The River Bush runs through this part of the area, powering the distillery and feeding into small, fertile valleys used for agriculture. The hinterland consists of rolling farmland and patches of woodland, with a dispersed rural population. The main transport route is the A2 coast road, which connects the various points of interest.
