Glen ward covers the southern and eastern edges of Newtownards, extending into the surrounding rural landscape. The area includes residential neighbourhoods on the town's fringe alongside significant tracts of agricultural land. Scrabo Hill and its prominent tower form a distinctive landmark to the north, overlooking the ward. The land slopes down towards the western shores of Strangford Lough, incorporating parts of its coastline.
The ward contains the National Trust's Mount Stewart estate, with its historic house and gardens directly on the lough shore. This area is characterised by a mix of commuter housing, farmland, and natural shoreline. The topography varies from the flat lands near the water to the rising ground inland, providing views across the lough to the Ards Peninsula.
