About

The Glenelly Valley ward is a rural area in the western part of the Derry City and Strabane District. It is defined by the Glenelly River and the surrounding uplands of the Sperrin Mountains. The landscape consists of farmland, forested areas, and scattered settlements. The main population centres include Plumbridge, Cranagh, and the smaller townlands throughout the valley.

The area's character is shaped by agriculture and its location within the Sperrins. The Owenkillew River, a major tributary of the River Foyle, flows through the valley. A notable feature is the well-preserved Neolithic court tomb at Clogherny, situated on the hillside above the river. The local economy is primarily based on farming, with some tourism related to the natural landscape.
