About

Gorleston North occupies the northern stretch of Gorleston-on-Sea seafront on the south side of the River Yare mouth. The shoreline here is a long sandy beach backed by a concrete sea wall and a promenade, with timber groynes running out into the sea at regular intervals. Near the western end a line of small beach huts and fishing shelters sits close to slipways used by local boats. The seafront contains cafes, fish and chip shops, and facilities for visitors and residents, and the coastline is crossed by paths that follow the shore.

Inland from the promenade the ward is a mix of residential streets, local shops, schools and community facilities. Roads radiate from the seafront toward housing estates and allotments, and regular bus services run along the main routes. Local councils maintain the sea defences and green spaces, and the area’s character is shaped by its function as a working coastline with seasonal leisure use as well as everyday local life.
