Great Ashby & Wymondley

Great Ashby sits on the north‑eastern edge of Stevenage inside North Hertfordshire and grew from a late‑20th/early‑21st century housing development that joined older lanes and farmland. The area includes a small local centre with shops, a primary school and a community centre, plus playing fields and linked footpaths. Where the estate meets the open land there are visible hedgerows and a sequence of public paths that people use for short walks into the surrounding countryside.

Wymondley comprises two small villages, Great Wymondley and Little Wymondley, set among arable fields and narrow country lanes. Little Wymondley retains a parish church with medieval fabric and a compact cluster of houses, while Great Wymondley is more dispersed. Rights of way run between the villages and across the fields, forming clear walking routes back to Great Ashby and the edge of Stevenage. Local life is shaped by farming patterns, village events and the linkages between the newer housing to the east and the older rural settlements to the west.
